Why Do You Blog?

by Deneil Merritt on July 14, 2009

Today, I want to make this post about all of you (my readers) and not about me. So this post is going to be less about me and more about you guys and gals. The reason I want to do this is to see why people blog. Everybody has their own reasons why they do things.

Before I dare ask you why you blog. I will tell you why I blog. I am sure most of you will understand why. As an internet entrepreneur, I first started out blogging just to talk about whatever came to mind, post things that I learn from different projects that I do, Make post about how much it cost me, and how much I made. You know something like a personal tracking book.

If I need to go back and learn something over it was there for me to read, understand it, and learn it all over again but something happen. People started reading my blog, commenting with their own views, and asking questions. So my focus was still the same but with a twist. I slowly realize that I could some how make money from this. So I focus on learning how to blog, do SEO the right way, and social media marketing.

I use my blog to post whatever came to mind and realize that my blog had no core readers. Some came to read about my projects, some to learn how to blog, some to learn how to do SEO, some to learn social media marketing, and others to learn about my latest win at poker. The blog became a complete mess. (In my eyes) I was unhappy with the way things was going. So I made a blog to focus on me, my projects, and blogging.

So my reason to blog is to become a full time blogger, make a full time income (or better), try new projects and post my results, and help others with anything that I can. Since my passions are blogging, helping others, poetry, and food photography. I see its a perfect fit to make a full time living from blogging.

What are your reasons to blog? and are you trying to become a full time blogger?

Ahhh man it’s good to be back from a few days away from the computer with the family.

I’ll take the first spot on the list, here’s a few reasons I blog.

1) Personal relaxation
2) My love for Business
3) I enjoy blogging and helping bloggers
4) I enjoy the networks I am involved in
5) Im a statistics freak and love looking at the numbers

Well, the first reason why I blog is because I really enjoy it, after if you look closely, I really like the fact that you can make money from doing something you like, instead of working hard for doing something you don’t really like.

I started my blog for my website Hiburrito.com. Then I started writing about internet marketing, making money online and whatever came to my mind.

Asswass July 14, 2009 at 3:56 pm

Yep, the blog helped me launched my website and it helped me explain my users the benefit of Hiburrito. I send traffic from my website to my blog and from my blog to my website.

I began blogging just to share poetry and photography. Then it grew into blogging to share blogging/social media tips and tricks. Now I just enjoy writing in general about anything I have time to write about, like tennis, dancing, etc.

I blog to relax and unwind and because I really enjoy it. If I can pass along some tips to others, that is icing on the cake.

Blogging relaxes me and I love to meet new and interesting people. To see what their opinions and views are on certain matters.

I would love to one day quit my job and just blog for a living, a dream that I’m working hard towards.

Blogging really satisfies one’s creative side. Aiming to be a full-time Blogger does have its own advantages and disadvantages.

I started my blog a year ago, the purpose of starting it was hobby, but now it changed to make money. I believe that make money from blog is the reason why everyone starts to build their blog now. Anyway, I’m enjoy doing what I’m doing right now and won’t be stopping doing these. In fact, I have to make money to pay my school fees right now. ;)

Lee

Well, those are some good reasons. From hobby to business. Good reason for the change. School is important. Good luck and I hope you make enough money to pay for school.

I started my first blog because I wanted to show that I had some expertise in the things I do in my business.

Later on, after trying out those group blog services and being disappointed twice when they lost their databases, I decided it was time to just buy a new domain name and have a blog where I could talk about anything I wanted to. Of course it’s now morphed into talking about most things online in some fashion, including my attempts at making money online.

My latest blog is actually to try to see if niche blogging can really work in making money; so far, it seems to be a bust at making money, but I’m learning a lot.

Mitch I think that is great. Start a blog to have a voice, speak on whatever comes to mind. As for the niche blogging, I also here its very profitable but I have not done it yet. I just may build a few and sell them.

Great reason to blog. I love poetry and photography (food photography mostly). You do give out great blogging and social media tips. I see why your blog growth so big.

Awesome reason to blog. Sometimes I find blogging relaxing. Mostly when I have a lot on my mind and feel like writing.

Deneil Merritt July 15, 2009 at 1:10 am

Yeah, it is fun to see what people say about some topics. Becoming a full time blogger is a lot of people’s goal. I hope you do it.

George,

That goal is not as far off as you think. Look at some of the big shot bloggers, like John Chow. They weren’t born with special abilities. They all started the same place we did. I view your blog daily, and I can tell that you work very hard. You will reach your goal :)

Finance Advisory Stop July 15, 2009 at 3:12 am

I agree with Jason. Even though many say they do it because they enjoy it, I feel that they are just saying that. There may be a few that blog for enjoyment, but everyone has money on their mind

Reply

Deneil Merritt July 15, 2009 at 3:18 am

That really depends on the person. Some people only make to make a small income from their blog to take care of the domain and hosting bills. They just want the joy of blogging and helping others.

Reply

Deneil Merritt July 15, 2009 at 3:22 am

lol, you wrong. John Chow didn’t start like us. He own a successful website before starting his personal blog. Another that sets him apart of us. He is an internet marketer that has a blog while we are bloggers trying to learn internet marketing.

Reply

Deneil Merritt July 15, 2009 at 3:23 am

I could not put it better myself.

Tycoon,

That is also one of the reasons I blog. I moved a year ago (right in the middle of high school) and have been very stressed and somewhat upset since. Blogging helps me with that.

Reply

Finance Advisory Stop July 15, 2009 at 3:26 am

You got me there Deneil. Well, let me elaborate. Pretend a blog is your business. John Chow did it, right? I mean, I’m assuming he started the business. Picture your blog as his business.

Reply

Deneil Merritt July 15, 2009 at 3:32 am

I don’t need to pretend or picture it. My blogs and websites are my business. The big difference between me and him is, he puts his buyers before his readers. I on the other hand put my readers above all.

There’s a difference between buyers and readers. I will do a post about it.

Paul B July 16, 2009 at 6:04 am

I like John but johnchow.com is nothing more than a flog. Personalised content designed to generate referral income and nothing more than that. Every “tip” he shares needs to be taken with a large dose of salt. In this marketplace there is only so much room for blogs like that. Deneil has a much better idea that 90% of blogger can achieve – i.e. building a readership by giving some value

Lee Ka Hoong July 17, 2009 at 11:07 am

I love photography too, same to you food photography as well! In fact, I own and manage a food blog now as well, but I didn’t update it for few weeks due to heavy work load. I enjoyed taking photo and shared what I’ve eaten, I think it’s more to restaurant and food review.

Regards,
Lee

Reply

Deneil Merritt July 18, 2009 at 12:59 am

Lee that is awesome that you have a food review blog. I was thinking of doing one but I knew I would not be able to update it all the time.

Reply

Deneil Merritt July 20, 2009 at 4:27 pm

That is one big goal. Good luck.
