Too Many WordPress Updates

by Deneil Merritt on August 12, 2009

I am going to keep this short. I don’t normally do this but I feel like doing a rant to clear my mind. I seen a few posts about too many wordpress updates but I thought to myself I don’t mind. Then its wordpress 2.8.2, wordpress 2.8.3, and now wordpress 2.8.4. Seriously, how many updates can you do within a few weeks.

I enjoy the wait 3 to 6 months and then another update comes out. Atleast when those updates come out you know that something new came out with some updates you can’t see. (Unless you look in the codes) Now those are real updates that we can look forward to. I am happy to see those updates because I know the wordpress developers put a lot of work into it.

Please wordpress developers. Finish these small updates and start working on wordpress 2.9. I can’t wait to see the changes that will be made and how wordpress can get any better. WordPress is the best out there and can’t be beaten so please stop bugging us with this small updates.

I am normally the nice friendly guy that think almost everything is funny but these small updates are nolonger funny, they stop putting a smile on my face when I see them. They are down right bugging me from doing my job, which is blogging!

Ok, I feel a lot better now. How do you feel about all the updates lately?

How funny; my rant on this same topic comes out on Friday, as I write many of my articles ahead of time. You’re right, it’s getting ridiculous.

Yes there has been a lot of little updates that they should have seen. I can’t wait for the major update. Greg Ellison

Well, at least you can click a link (automatic upgrade) to get these updates, so I wouldn’t complain :D

There’s no real excuse for it, it’s just shoddy programming. I’d be much happier paying some money for WordPress and having them release things properly i.e. tested/analysed for security holes. Mind you that doesn’t seem to help Microsoft much :)

2.8 has been the worst to date, hopefuly 2.9 will sort a lot of these issues out.

I sometimes get worried about how these security risks are forgotten and then fixed later. I would rather wait longer and get a version that is stable and there are no issues at all, I know we can only wish for that to happen :)

If it’s a security release then I upgrade ASAP. Sometimes I upgrade with beta versions as well, not always, but I do.

Nowadays Wordpress patches are coming just like breaking news alerts. How many times I have to take a backup and other things to prevent my blogs?

Definitely agree with everyone on this one. It is especially a pain when you have several blogs that you run.

It seems in the last several months they have been increasing the updates almost exponentially :(

I just commented about the same thing on another blog. Feels like they are releasing new updates every other week. Just as you, I prefer when it comes a new update twice a year with some big updates instead of all these small updates.

I love wordpress updates but these unexpected updates started irritating me now… :|
Every update is loaded with a new bug and to resolve it another update and new bug and again the same process….

This is so annoying it’s amazing and the crappy part about it is that even with all of these updates it still hasn’t resolved my automatic log out issue that I am having.

Wordpress will never be perfect. Right after a update is released, someone comes out with an exploit. All of you bloggers may have hacked blogs right now, but don’t know it…

Yeah, I can’t wait for the major update as well. I don’t see how wordpress can get any better though. Even though I bet some people are submitting ideas to wordpress developers.

Agreed, lots of updates lately. A new major update will be nice, however we’ve seen some fairly awesome WP updates within the last year. What will they think of next??

Yes, having the automatic upgrade button does make things easier. That’s not the point. They should get the update right the first time.

lol, you got a point there. Microsoft is one company that has its ups and downs. Mostly because of their bad decisions.

I totally agree with you George. I rather wait longer and get a stable version as well.

lol its like breaking news. That’s funny. I hope they get it together. So we can focus on our business.

I totally agree with you on that. I run almost 10 blogs and really get sick of loging in just to upgrade the blog.

I guess more and more people are sick of the small updates. 2 big updates a year makes a lot more since than 5 small updates.

Yeah, its like a circle to piss off bloggers.

You know John, I been having that same problem. I thought it was my browser messing with me. Good to know its a wordpress problem. I’m sure they will fix it in their next small update.

From your comment I can tell you are not a blogger. If you were, you would know we not asking for wordpress to be perfect. We asking that they release stable updates. Not small updates to fix the problem in the small update before that.

At least it’s not like back in the day (actually wasn’t that long ago) when we had to update WordPress manually….
