Squidoo vs Hubpages Case Study #1

by Deneil Merritt on July 12, 2009

I got a payment from squidoo and thought to myself. Maybe I can make some good money writing on this site. Then I remember, I came across a blog week ago. Lady was making $200+ a month from hubpages. I am a big fan of passive income. So why not do both and see which one brings more income. Couldn’t hurt to test both of them right?

To make things fair, I deleted my 2 poems from squidoo and posted them here. I made a page on both squidoo and hubpages on how to make a blog in any niche. Just to start things off. I will try to make around 5 to 10 more articles on both sites by the end of the month. I will also make up to 10 articles on both sites every month.

As an internet entrepreneur, we should always try new things to bring in another income stream. Squidoo and HubPages are 2 great sites to not only build passive income but also provide backlinks to blogs. I for one made sure I got a few backlinks in the articles but most importantly I made sure the backlinks was related to the articles.

I read of people making over $1,000 a month from squidoo and over $200 a month from HubPages. If others can do it, surely I can do it as well. I may not have the same amount of time as them since I run a few blogs and websites. Always trying to ways to bring in more traffic and building backlinks. Oh, don’t forget the amount of blog commenting I do. All of this cuts into my time to focus on this first case study.

I think I can get the income from both these sites up to at least $100 a month by the end of the year. Just to make things fair. I will only post the income from these sites in the income report when I get paid from them. Since HubPages don’t pay direct. You have to use your own codes. I will know the income from HubPages as in google adsense. I use channels on all my ads but hubpages. I made a tracking code for both eBay parters network and amazon.

Now that I have everything set up, lets see how this case study goes. :) By the way, if anybody want to join me in this case study feel free. Join Squidoo & HubPages and lets make some MONEY!

What do you think of the case study? & Are you going to join the case study?

I have post both on squidoo and hubpages, and I think that squidoo is much easier, and there you can make more money than on hubpages. I made ~$200 on squidoo.

Deneil,

I’m looking forward to seeing how your case study goes. This is a neat idea. I’ve tried Squidoo out — it was a great tool for me thus far. Best of luck to you!

Hi Deneil,

Good thing you started this case analysis. I’ll be looking forward on it. I have not tried squidoo for I don’t have enough time for it. But though, I’ll give it a try when I can have my vacation leave from my employment.

I’ve heard good things about both Hubpages and Squidoo – with some interesting earnings claims. It’ll be interesting to see how your little experiment goes. Good luck!

Btw Deneil — question about Squidoo.

Are you supposed to make a new Squidoo page for each topic?

Eg. “Top 10 Ways To Save Money”

I tried making a Squidoo Page for my whole blog, called “Finance With A 17 Year old”, but they rejected it.

Squidoo. Yes, I’ve heard of these guys… I’ve alos heard that you can promote products in the resource box and make a sale through clickbank and of course you’ll get paid a commission on that

Kindly correct me if im wrong Deneil

Cheers
Sandeep

I have not heard of either of theses programs. I will wait for you to do your case study and make a decision on your analysis.

I have always preferred hubpages interface. They have a really good team working on it. Squido also seems to be giving lower results in Google for my latest lenses. I have been creating content on both and over the last few months the hubpages are doing better in the SERPs.

How many lens did you make to bring in $200? Also do you still earn from them?

Yeah, I recommend you join and make one page on squidoo until you have time to do it.

Yeah, it should be pretty fun. Can’t beat another income stream. Thanks for the luck. :)

Yes, a new len for each topic and don’t focus any of your lens on your site. They view that as spam.

For example, that’s like me coming to your blog and making a really big page all about my blog. Is that spam? Yes.

Come up with simple topics that focus on long tail keywords and have a minimum of 300 words. You should do fine.

You half right. They don’t have a resource box. As long as the article is good and not spammy then they will allow the affiliate link to a clickbank product.

Thank you, this case should be fun. It’s always good to test things out. I have a lot more case studies going on right now but can’t talk about those until their done. I am making an ebook for each of them. By the end of the year, I should have a least 4 ebooks for sell. Article marketing does bring in some traffic, pretty straight forward stuff you know? Very targeted traffic when going after the right keywords.

I sure agree with you about the interface and the team working hard at hubpages. I haven’t searched any keywords where I seen either hubpages or squidoo on the first page. Maybe I just need to do some long tail keyword research. I’m sure I can pump out 5 articles in no time after the research.
