So far we covered how to become a poker affiliate and poker site set up by signing up to poker affiliate solutions. Today I will go over on-site SEO and content. While on-site SEO is very straight forward, your focus will be on content production. Like so many people say content is king. If thats true then backlinks is queen which I will cover tomorrow. So lets get into today’s lesson on the road to building a passive income.
Keyword Research
Before adding any content or changing titles, descriptions, and keywords. You need to do some keyword research for your homepage and all your internal pages. I personally use the google adwords keywords tool. For my homepage I pick a keyword or keywords that get over 10,000 searches a month and for internal pages I pick a keyword or keywords with a minimum of 1,000 searches a month.
The homepage should be saved for last. You want quick traffic to your website. Target one or two keywords at a time for your internal pages. Once one page ranks in the top 3 for its keyword more onto the next page and repeat. By the time you ready to target the keyword for your homepage. Your domain will have age and your site will be making more than enough money to go against the big dogs for that keyword.
Quick tip: For your review/signup pages here is some basic keywords to check out.
- pokerroom
- pokerroom rakeback
- pokerroom deposit bonus
- pokerroom bonus
- pokerroom bonus code
- pokerrrom review
- pokerroom download
- pokerroom referral code
On-site SEO
On-site SEO covers title, description, keywords and internal links. This is very important to help your pages rank in the search engines. Each one of them plays a role into your rankings.
Title – Your title should have your keywords in it. For example, on my site for the review/signup pages I have my titles set to read like this; pokerroom rakeback, deposit bonus, & review. As you can see from that title I can target a lot of keywords.
- pokerroom
- pokerroom rakeback
- pokerroom deposit bonus
- pokerroom bonus
- pokerroom review
- rakeback pokerroom
- bonus pokerroom
- deposit bonus pokerroom
- review pokerroom
Just from the title I am already on the right track to rank for my keywords. Now for the description I kept mine short but not too short and straight to the point. The description is what your visitors are going to see in the search engines. You to give them what they are looking for at the same time use your keywords. Here’s another example of what I done on my site.
Site name presents xx% rakeback and xxx% match up to $xxx deposit bonus at pokerroom.
From that example, you can see I am still adding keywords while visitors know what the page is all about. Let’s see what keywords I could target with this.
- site name
- rakeback
- rakeback pokerroom
- deposit bonus pokerroom
- bonus pokerroom
- pokerroom rakeback
- pokerroom deposit bonus
- pokerroom bonus
The search engines say they no longer look at the meta keywords in ranking a page. However, as long as I been in this business. I know better than to listen to search engines as they always changing things without saying anything for years. I like to add 1 to 7 keywords to my pages starting with the one I want to rank for the most. You should know which one bring in the most traffic from your keyword research.
As for internal linking I follow a general rule of linking to link to a minimum of one other page on every page of the site. Not just randomly throwing a link in because I have to link to another page. I take the time to write in my keyword for another page while still being on topic for the page I am writing. For example, just look at the first line of this page.
Content
Your content should provide the visitor with everything they want to know with at least 1 or 2 CTA (calls to action). For example, if you had a strategy site and the article you wrote is about why a poker room is good to play pot limit omaha. Your CTA can be as simple as this;
To put this strategy to the test. Click here to signup to pokerroom and receive xxx% up to $xxx deposit bonus and xx% rakeback.
As you can see the CTA is very basic. However, you are telling your visitor what to do and what they will receive. Before you go adding content to your site. You what to plan out the structure of your urls’ and content. We touched on it a bit in the set up post for the signup/review pages. You want to put together a structure that will be very user friendly and when the search crawls your site will keep going from page to page with no end.
Again I am going to use a strategy site as an example. If you was setting up a strategy site that covered all the poker games offered by online poker rooms. There’s no end to the amount of content you can produce for it. So I will just cover the basics of it. You can have all the games list on the home page with a brief intro and link to them. From there you can expand.
- domain.com/pokergame
- domain.com/pokergame/rules
- domain.com/pokergame/strategy
- domain.com/pokergame/strategy/articlename
- domain.com/pokergame/promotions
- domain.com/pokergame/news
- domain.com/pokergame/proplayer
- domain.com/pokergame/bestpokerrooms
As you can see there is no end to the amount of pages you can produce for a site like this but more importantly the site structure is clean and clear for both visitors and search engines. Once you have the site structure in order all you have to do is produce the content. Now if you know nothing about poker then hiring a poker writer would be best. Top poker writers can be found on the poker forum poker affiliates listings.
