Poker Affiliate: Email Marketing

by Deneil Merritt on August 23, 2010

I hope you learning a lot from this poker affiliate series. I know a lot of what I posted can be applied to other niches so hopefully something is rubbing into your brain. Today I want to go over email marketing. There are a few different strategies to use to collect email addresses as well as make money in the short term and the long term.

What Autoresponder To Use?

The autoresponder I highly recommend and use myself on this site as well as my other sites is aweber. By far the best you can get. I am a big believer in if you want something done right the first time you hire the best. I know you may think about hosting your own autoresponder or try using a cheap autoresponder. I could give you some hard facts why thats a bad idea but I am just going to ask you this one question. “Do you really want to put your business at risk?”

Yes, your email mailing list is another asset much more important than your site, twitter page, facebook fan page, and youtube channel. I bet you wondering why. Because of this great fact, you can sell your site, facebook can shut down your page, twitter can shut down your page, and youtube can shut down your channel, but you still have your list that can always make you more money. So don’t fuck it up with a self-hosted, free, or cheap autoresponder. Signup to aweber trail for $1.

Email List Building Strategies

The most known way to build a mailing list is slap a signup form on your website. Yeah, it will get a few signups but not enough. If you asking when is enough. The answer is there is never enough. You can always improve on your signup rate. So let’s go over 3 ways to get people to want to sign up since you will be getting a lot of traffic from the search engines and social media marketing.

Video – Offer a free poker strategy video. Visitor signups and confirm subscription to see the video. Very effect, I am sure you seen a few done this way if you in the internet marketing crowd.

eBook – This is the most common way to get people to signup your mailing list. As they say don’t fix it if its not broken. I recommend doing this. It works very well.

eCourse – This one few people do but I believe this one pays off a lot better than the ebook. This get people looking forward to an email from you. Once people are not only use to getting emails from you but they look forward to them. You have gain their trust and they will open almost every email from you. I say almost because nobody has a 100% open rate. Loyalty doesn’t run that deep these days.

Ways To Make Short Term Money

We all need a cash flow to keep our businesses going. Short term profits is a great way to fund your site. In your ebook and/or ecourse you want to link back to the poker room signup pages on your site. Convert your subscribers into players. This will bring short and long term profits.

However, thats the main goal anyway, but you still need money coming in until you have a lot of players producing a nice income for you. There are 2 ways to do so by promoting someone else product or promoting your own product.

Someone else product – There are tons of products out there; training sites, training ebooks, tracking software, and other poker tools. First find out which ones are most useful for your type of visitors. The way you find out is by reading through your site and ask yourself what would you need to be a better poker player.

Your own product – This may not be the best option for beginners. However, if you are a good poker player or done your research to make sure a strategy works. Then writing your own ebook or ecourse to sell maybe your option for short term profits.

If you read this article carefully. You realize I provided value for free to get the visitor email address and then later promote a product either someone else’s product or my own product. Remember, just like the social media marketing you have to build trust with people for them to signup as your player or buy a product you are promoting.

Follow Up Emails

Follow up emails are sent out as you set them up. For example, there is an email sent out once the subscriber confirms their subscription which is the first follow up email. The next one you can have it set up to go out the next day, next 5 days, next week. Its all up to you. How many follow up emails should you have? Well there is no right answer for that one.

Some people have major success with 6 emails while others have the next 2 years set up for their subscribers. It’s all on how much value you want to provide and how to make that turn into big dollars. The follow up emails should be short and to the point with at least one link back to your site related to the email.

If you have any questions about email marketing please post them below. Tomorrow I will be discussing online promotions and branding. Also, if you quiting the busy. I will buy your site/account if you have active players besides yourself. And for those of you that don’t want a site but want to earn money from promoting sign up to my rakeback site and use the referral center.
