List Grow Blog vs. Blog Grow List

by Deneil Merritt on September 16, 2009

Now I know this is not the normal post you would see any where. Let’s face it, I like to be different and think outside the box. (Man I really hate that term) Just from reading the title, one would think that you only needed to do one of them. Well you are wrong. I am going to explain why a professional blogger would and should be doing both.

Mailing List Grow Blog

I must say that this has to be the best way to grow your blog. It’s a lot easier to grow your mailing list via squeeze page. The visitor has 2 options, subscriber or leave. Squeeze pages are known to convert at a rate of 20% to 50%. I know this for a fact because my squeeze page converts at 33%. Believe it or not, some of my subscribers on my squeeze page came from this blog. Kind of like catching the leads that fell through the cracks.

Ok, straight to the point. With a squeeze page converting at 20% to 50%. You can now promote your blog to that mailing list. Now you reach more readers than you would have before. This is why I like growing my mailing list through my squeeze page over my blog.

Blog Grow Mailing List

The average blog has advertisements on the blog, text links to products, and lots of articles. As you can see there’s a lot going on on a blog. You got 3 chances to get the person sign up to your mailing list through your welcome message (lightbox if you using aweber), the footer ad (if you using the ultimate footer ad, I am going to buy this soon), or the sign up form in your sidebar (I use aweber for this). Now that’s a great way to grow your mailing list but once again, there is too much going on.

You got 3 options to get the leads that fall through the crack.
1. Remove the ads and only focus on getting signups to your mailing list. Which I am sure will cut your monthly income from your blog for awhile until your mailing list start making you money.

2. Add a text link with a great author text to your squeeze page to catch a person’s eye.

3. Just get as many leads as you can from your set up.

See either way, you will be growing your mailing list and your blog. True be told, your mailing list will grow your blog a lot faster than your blog will grow your mailing list. You can’t go wrong with doing both.

Remember, as long as you are growing both. You should do fine.

I have not got a mailing list at this stage as I’m trying to concentrate on a few things for now. Once I feel I’m more confident and things are running smooth, I will start to create a mailing list and will promote it like hell :)

I have seen some websites off stuff for free for signing up and that sometimes gets my attention and I signup. After a while I feel that I’m being spammed by them about this and that product and eventually unsubscribe.

Not to say the way you doing it is wrong but the biggest mistake many people make is wait until their blog better or bigger than start their mailing list. Over half of the readers I have on my mailing list didn’t sign up through my blog. It’s up to you my friend. Once you start your mailing list, any help you need let me know.

Yeah, there is some really great information out there for free. Their not spamming you since you need give them permission to email you. Some marketers take it over the edge or you might be on their burnout list. If you on somones burnout list, you have 2 options. Buy something and you will be moved to their real list or unsubscribe.
