How To Grow Your Blog Faster

by Deneil Merritt on June 23, 2009

Over the pass few days many blogs have been talking about planning your blog posts ahead, writing your posts and scheduling your posts, so you can focus on promotion. What I have seen in comments is people may not have time or ideas to post 5 to 7 articles in one day to schedule them for the week.

Well I got a few tips for all of you. I will go over how to get ideas for your articles, how to pump out articles for the week if you don’t have time to write them all in one day, and why you should log into your blog admin area everyday. After you done reading this article, I am sure you will be ready to make your blog have fresh content daily and have some true blog improvement.

How To Get Ideas For Articles

This is a lot easier than you making it out to be. First take some time to do a little blog commenting on your niche top big blogs. In the “make money online” niche or the “blogging” niche. It will be somebody like JohnChow, Johncow, ProBlogger, or Shoemoney. Comment on their latest posts, voice your views. If you feel that a comment is just not enough. Then you have just found your topic for a post. With big name bloggers posting daily it is easy to pick 7 topics for a week worth of posts. Write your articles, publish one for Sunday, and schedule the rest to be published one a day.

How To Be A Week Ahead On Articles

This is similar to what you just read but a bit more flexible for those of you whom don’t have time to write a weeks worth of content in one day. First you want to do the same as above to come up with article ideas quick. This will allow you to write at least 2 articles a day.

What To Do With 2 Articles A Day?

You are going to publish one of those articles and schedule other article to be published the next day. Then the next day you write 2 more articles and schedule them to be published one a day.

For example you write 2 articles on Sunday, publish one and schedule the other to be published on Monday. Monday you write 2 articles and schedule one article to be published on Tuesday, and one on Wednesday. Tuesday you write 2 articles and schedule them for Thursday and Friday. By the time you reach Sunday again you  should have a week’s worth of articles ready to be published.

I highly recommend you use a combination of both of these methods. This will allow you to maintain one post a day for months on end and give you the freedom to post news in your niche. Which will put you above the one post a day. Remember, the more posts you have, the more pages you have in search engines, and this will result in more traffic from search engines.

Why you should log into your blog daily

You should log into your blog everyday for 2 reasons. Both reasons are very important for your blog’s success. One is to build your blog’s community and the other is to make sure everything is running smoothly.

Reason 1) You should always reply to comments on your blog. This helps build the community on your blog. This will also build the average comment count on your blog posts.

Reason 2) Sometimes the scheduled posts don’t publish. You want to publish that article right away if it “miss” in other words “don’t publish”

Well this is my secret to growing a blog faster than others. Remember to always internal link to at least 1 or 2 other posts, pages, or home page with every blog post you make.

What do you think about the way I do things?

Thanks for this info, I will do my best to start scheduling posts in advance and go from there. I do my best to log in to my admin panel every day, to check comments and to ensure that all is still ok.

Yeah, faster growing will produce better result in the future. Nad I had experienced the “missed schedule” post a lot of time so I’d decided to save all the posts as drafts and then publish them on time.

Thanks for the info. Yea,h you can maintain your blog better if you do it systematically.

Often a comment on other blogs motivates you to write more on the topic. It is truly wise to visit other top blogs in your niche. This will definitely help you write new posts on your blogs; thus updating your blog with the times.

Good points, especially about posting every day. I do think that the advice about writing ahead depends on your blog though.

At socialnerdia.com, I sometimes receive tips from companies like Netvibes about new things they’re doing, and I have to write about it quickly. For other posts, such as weekly columns, I am able to write several weeks ahead.

The biggest challenge is finding time to write, no matter when you post.

Great points Deniel! Probably the most important thing in building a blog and sustaining your audience is to post regularly. Over the years I have started several different blogs and the number one reason some of them failed to build any momentum was I did not post on a consistent basis.

Now, my partner and I make it a point to always have several posts in our draft area for those days we don’t have the time to write something new.

I like your ideas about posting schedules and posting in advance. I definitely try to post in advance, but then I always get behind again. Getting into a routine really does help.

I must admit I used to worry about a regular schedule – but as my blog is a more about my personal journey than a major revenue earner for me I try to post once a week – if I can find something to say.
The reality is that making money online is pretty boring!

Unfortunately, in my case, I have a terrible fluctuation in motivation to write posts. So, when I’m overflowing with that motivation, I’ll get 5-10 posts done on a span of two days and lay off, while entertaining myself with the promotion/monetization side of blogging. :)

I think the idea of writing a weeks articles in one day is a great way to keep your article on topic. I find that if I go day by day my train of thought or focus changes and I just don’t get what I want.

I have also found that I get way too much on the go and that messes with my focus because stress and guilt catch up with me. :)

I have only recently decided that I will pick my top 5 or 6 blogs and write for those Monday thru Friday. And if I have time left over I will worry about the other 25 blogs.

I have started requesting others to write 300 and 500 word articles for a few of my sites. I have a couple of people from the Philippines helping me out.

Having that little extra help has given me some extra time I an spend in my garden or out fishing, gathering more blog content of course. :)

Yeah, It can be hard running more than one blog. I been having troubles with this for about a year now. I think I pick a blog and totally focus on it and slowly forget about the others. My girlfriend recent;y started blogging with me so she helps with things. It’s been a lot easier on me.

I think that’s a good idea to request articles from the readers. I think that would really help with my poker blog. I love poker but there’s only so much I can write about it. I don’t see how you can run 30 blogs. Man you are on fire. Would you mind me interviewing you? I think my readers and I can really learn something from you.

As always excellent tips, if I could only get into the pattern of being a week ahead on my articles that would be a big helper!

I wrote an article somewhat about this not too long ago.

I personally like writing a few articles in one day (10 articles or so) and scheduling them.

The only bad thing is once those 10 posts are up, you might be not used to writing articles and posting anymore and then you’ll miss on posting after that.

It’s happened to me.

Yeah, I hear you. This is my personal blog as well. The reason I keep my blog updated daily is not only to grow my blog but connect with my readers. I find the other stuff that I do to make money online boring. Don’t get me wrong making more money is good, well its always good. I like blogging, it has become my passion among other things.

Keep doing what you doing, it seem to be working for you.

Thanks for the tips! I would never have enough to blog about to blog ahead of time! I seem to be a spontaneous blogger! Ideal’s come and go and when I find myself motivated enough I will blog and publish the article same day.

I like the idea of writing 2 articles in a day, then posting, one every day, for the next two days. Many bloggers just do not have time to write a post a day, so this method makes it much easier. Nice work Deneil.

Deneil Merritt June 26, 2009 at 12:28 pm

Well it sounds like that system works for you. As long as one post get out per day, you will do fine.

I think that using google trends can also make your blog grow faster, since you’ll write about what people are looking for at the moment, and you’ll get tons of traffic from this.

You welcome, start with the 2 articles a day. I am sure you will have fun with this and see how much time you save.

Thank you, I do my best to keep it simple and easy to read.

Yeah, it will make life a lot easier. You can do a lot more blog commenting. Most of the time my articles are wrote days before its published. I send the day posting comments and working on my other sites. (Also playing poker)

Sandeep take some time to write your articles so you don’t have to try to write one everyday.

Yeah, I hate when the post “miss” some times it gets me mad. Saving them as drafts sounds like a great idea but for me it won’t work. I have my posts set to a minute into the day (00:01) to be published. I am not awake at this time and if I am. I am too busy writing more articles or blog commenting. I have more than one blog to write articles for.

You welcome. Yeah, a lot of the big name bloggers have an average of 1.2 or 1.3 blog posts per day. I want to get my average to 1.5 posts per day.

Reply

Deneil Merritt June 24, 2009 at 8:59 am

Yes, that is why is important to do as much blog commenting as you can. This why I write my articles ahead of time so I have the freedom to comment on as many blogs as I can.

Reply

Deneil Merritt June 24, 2009 at 12:39 pm

You right, it totally depends on the niche. I went to your blog and seen the topics you cover. It would be easy to find something to blog about everyday, even twice a day. If you don’t have time to blog that can be a hard one. Try writing an article or 2 in your free time. Then type them up and post them when you find time to get to the computer.

Reply

Deneil Merritt June 24, 2009 at 12:59 pm

Yeah, I had a few blogs fail because of that as well. I am only one person so its hard to run so many blogs. Lucky my girlfriend wants into the business as well. So having a partner is really nice.

I’m you guys can do one post a day very easily. You write 3, he write, and you write 1 together. There 7 articles for the week. Having several posts in the draft area can be very useful for taking a week break or focusing on promotion for the whole week.

Thanks for checking us out! I noticed your comment on our Random Tuesdays segment, we’re excited about posting more randomness every week.

Yea, the problem is finding time and/or contributors. But it’s a fun challenge. Sometimes I have much more potential content than actual posts because I’m trying to keep the quality up.

We’ve been live for about 2 months so we’re getting better at it and with 3 contributors we’re already growing a bit.

Deneil Merritt June 24, 2009 at 2:33 pm

I use to have the same problem with my old blog. Once you have some many posts ready in advance. You relax and not think about writing articles. My advise is to write 2 articles a day even if you have a week worth of posts set and ready. This helped me have 2 months worth of posts set and ready on my old blog. I’m not telling you to do the same but at least focus on getting a week or 2 set and ready. Let me know how it works out for you.

No problem, I completely love that video. I can’t wait to see more.

That reminds of a post I read earlier called: Don’t be a victim of perfectionism

You should really read it, I think it will help you.

Keep posting daily and see your growth after the 6 months mark.

My secret is doing the combo even when I am lazy. Most of the time I am half way through the next week with articles before Sunday even comes. Like as of yesterday, I have articles set and ready up to Wednesday.

When ever an idea comes to your mind. Write the title, the first paragraph, and save it. Great time to do this is while blog commenting. By the time you done blog commenting you should have at least 5 ideas for posts saved.

If you apply this, let me know how it works out for you.

Reply

Deneil Merritt June 29, 2009 at 8:55 am

You should never stop writing even if you already have 10 posts set and ready to go. If you stop writing because you have 10 posts ready just mean you got comfortable and lazy to write more. Keep in you mind that their is always more to write about. I don’t care if you a month ahead, there is always more to write.
