How To Get Traffic From Stumbleupon

by Deneil Merritt on September 23, 2009

With my very first blog that I still run to this very day pulled in great traffic from stumbleupon. I later wrote a post about the secrets to get traffic from stumbleupon. Today I want to write about this topic again for 3 reasons. 1) I want to help you get traffic from stumbleupon. 2) I learned a little more about getting traffic from stumbleupon. 3) I want a “how to get traffic from stumbleupon” post on this blog. :)

Many people say that stumbleupon traffic is useless and visitors only stay for 10 seconds of less. First let me laugh at that. HA HAA! The reasons these people are saying that is because they was too lazy to take some time to learn how to get targeted traffic from stumbleupon.I have personally gotten my first blog to get over 2,000 visitors a month and average over 20 minutes per visit from stumbleupon.

Since I haven’t been focused on marketing this blog really but more on the lines of building a large mailing list, researching software to run the membership I am going to build, and content for my ebook. I lost touch with one of my goals of doing the social media marketing challenge. I will be getting back into my groove of marketing my blog. I will step my marketing up as well. I got a few resources, I think I may tap into pretty soon. Back to the topic at hand, getting traffic from stumbleupon.

Stumbles – First lets focus on this since its the most common thing to do is stumble a page and hope others do the same. Well this is a start but like most things you must work for the traffic and don’t over do it with submitting your blog posts. I recommend submitting and/or stumbling at least 10 to 20 other sites between each of your submissions.

Reviews – Now this is going to help you push more traffic to your blog. The more reviews the better. They hold a lot more weight than just a stumble. Plus reviews kind of tell the stumbler what they are in for before they go to your blog.

Tags – This is the real power behind long term traffic from stumbleupon. Yes, you heard what I said. That little voice in your head while you reading is right. the real power behind long term traffic from stumbleupon is tags. Each tag has its own page with lists of sites. Now you want to get a hold on some of those tags. You want to be first like you want to be first on google. How do you get first on a tag page? You must have and/hope that everybody that stumble your page/post uses the same tag as you. If they use tags at all.

Friends & Sharing – This is the power that brings it all together. Yes, its like high school for you all over again. You must have tons of friends. When I was getting 2,000 visitors a month from stumbleupon. I had 11 friends and only 4 was active. Yup, only 4 active friends on stumbleupon. Lucky for me, those friends like to leave reviews and tags.

You want to share any and everything that will either help them or make them laugh. Almost don’t be shy about sharing posts from them with your whole friends list. If any of you are on my friends list on stumbleupon. You know I share your blog posts like they are my own. I find something really good or made me laugh. You know I am sharing it with everybody.

When you put all this together, you get a lot of traffic from stumbleupon. Now getting targeted traffic from stumbleupon is an art. You must get friends in the same niche as you as well as getting friends in niches that are close to yours. How to get friends? Add your stumbleupon link to your blog (For example, every link in the word stumbleupon is to my stumbleupon profile), if you got a ebook make sure your stumbleupon link is in it, and if you building a mailing list by giving away that ebook. Make sure in your welcome email that you list stumbleupon as one of the ways to contact you.

Remember this and you can’t go wrong with your blogs growth. The importance runs in this order.
1) Mailing list
2) Blog
3) Social Media Profiles

I hope this helped you learn how to get targeted long term traffic from stumbleupon. Post your stumbleupon profile links below and I will add you as a friend if you haven’t already added me. ;)

Hello Deneil

Great article. I don’t pursue Stumble traffic as much as I should, this is a nice kick in the pants to get on it.

Thanks!
