How To Become A Poker Affiliate

by Deneil Merritt on August 17, 2010

Since my main project is completely focus on poker. Which makes me a poker affiliate. I will go over how to become a poker affiliate. I know there are tons of online poker rooms out there and I will not tell you to join a ton of poker affiliate programs. I will recommend the one affiliate program I use called poker affiliate solutions.

Before I get started on explaining how to become a poker affiliate. I will go over the 3 different payment plans for poker affiliates. There’s CPA, Revenue Sharing, and Rakeback.

Poker Affiliate Payment Plan: CPA

CPA (Cost Per Acquisition) – A player signs up to an online poker room through your affiliate link, makes a deposit, and start playing poker. He or She reach a required amount of points for you to receive payment on that player. Each poker room has their own required points. One poker room can be just depositing while another may be 250 points. As for payment, CPA ranges from $75 and up.

My thoughts: This is perfect for anyone who’s starting out and need the cash flow to keep the business running. The reason I highly recommend poker affiliate solutions to promote the top brands in online poker is you can start with top dollar for each player rather than going straight to the online poker rooms’ affiliate programs and have to start with $75 per player.

Poker Affiliate Payment Plan: Revenue Share also known as Rev share, MGR, and NGR

Revenue Share – A player signs up to an online poker room through your affiliate link, make a deposit, and start playing poker. You share the profits made by the online poker room from that player. The breakdown of commissions is something like this rake (money made by the poker room) – cost (any bonuses earn by the player) = profit. Your commission percentage start between 20% to 40% depending on the online poker room.

My thoughts: This option is only good if the poker room doesn’t offer rakeback to the players. So you will earn a nice percentage every month as long as your players keep playing. The only problem with this method is it takes awhile to even come close to earning the same amount as the CPA cash flow. Once again I have to recommend poker affiliate solutions for a few reasons that are included in the rakeback section below.

Poker Affiliate Payment Plan: Rakeback

Rakeback – A player signs up to an online poker room through your affiliate link, make a deposit, and start playing poker. The player receives a percentage ranging from 27% to 40% and you receive the rest of the percentage ranging from 3% to 15% depending on the online poker room. However, going through super affiliates or rakeback networks. You receive a lower percentage ranging from 3% to 11% while they provide you with a free website, membership system with support and refer a friend program, as well as promotions for retention tools like rake races, rake chases, and freerolls (free tournaments).

My thoughts: This is the option I picked for 2 reasons. 1) Most if not all the high rakers (semi-pro and pro poker players) know about rakeback so there’s no point going with rev share. 2) Everyone likes to share a good thing so the refer a friend program is awesome for bring in players. (I should know I have a player that refers other players) Poker affiliate solutions is the perfect rakeback network to work with. They make it so easy to start your own rakeback site and answer any questions you may have. Which is why I went with them. There are other rakeback networks out there like RakeUpdate (co-owned by a close friend of mine). So do your research before choosing.

Also, being a poker affiliate you can refer other affiliates to affiliate programs and earn a percentage. The percentage range from 2% to 20% depending on which online poker room you was with. PAS  subaffiliate percentage is 10%. Referring just one super affiliate could have you rolling in money for the rest of your life. However, you will refer 100s of affiliates that will not earn a single penny out of pure laziness or they give up before making a cent.
